Standardize Testing
In about three and half weeks our school district will start MAP testing. Every year we come up with different ways to raise our scores. This year we have our kids in what we call boot camp for reinforcement in the areas of Comm. Arts and Math. Selected students give up one elective to attend these practice sessions. I'm interested in seeing the data on how effect this strategy was. The selected students can choose to attend these three week sessions or not. Students that attend these sessions don't like giving up their elective but, we remind them that its just for three weeks and the extra help in Math and Comm. Arts will help them to better understand the curriculum not only for this year but it will also prepare them for next year as well.

Our window for student testing will be here before we know it. I am teaching an 8th grade math skills class this year to help student raise their scores. Our focus the first semester was on the Direct Math Assessment. The second semester is the ISAT's.
You sound like me as far as blogging...I started my blog for a class. I am excited about trying out blogging with some of my classes though.
It must be hard to get students to go to this "optional" session. Our students are so done with it and they are only in 5th grade! It is a shame that we cannot appreciate students for their own individual potentials and success, but try to fit them into a mold. I understand that we need to have high expectations for all, but some are just not realistic.
I do like the set up of your blog however! And how you name your prep "boot camp!"
Dustin what is your blog address?
