This week assignment

This weeks assignment stirred up some concerns about Acceptance User Policies. Each districts has some type of user policy in place, and any use of the computer can create some concerns; and we all know that we can't always predict what will be shared on some websites. I have previewed sites, and then when students go to those sites if they should type one thing wrong like .com instead of .org they are seeing something that I had not intended for them to see. Our district has blocked several sites like YouTube and others. In the past we were able to monitor what sites our students were viewing via their sign numbers but for some reason we are not able to that anymore.

If YouTube is blocked can you get to TeacherTube? Some great videos on there as well.

We just unloaded a new web filter program. It did not go well the first few days because sites that used to be ok now were not and vice versa. It is a touchy subject because of liability. However, when students go to those sites at home, who is monitoring them?? (A pet peeve I have...)

I agree with Dustin. I think we have to work harder at teaching appropriate internet use. Students are going to be exposed to the wrong material sooner than we want no matter what we do about it.
